Improvement in Productivity through Tool Monitoring:
Does static service life data during processing bother you? In our IMPC network, we work together with our network partner Digital Way to handle tool monitoring and predictive tool time analysis. Tools can often be used longer than the static service life data will allow. In many cases, however, early tool errors will cause not only a reduced service life but also considerable additional costs due to faulty parts and loss of production capacity, sometimes even as high as several times the costs of the tools themselves.
Together with DW, IMPC is currently working on strategies to guarantee safe data for long-lasting tool operation and machine availability through early anomaly detection and tool monitoring. All this while simultaneously reducing tool costs per part, avoiding faulty parts and prolonging machine availability. The DW system records the direct power at the spindle drive and allows measurements and fast data collection within a 10 Watt interval.
